These little girls are about as sugary and spicy as they come. I love evening light when the sun is peeking through the trees. It creates such a warm glow over everything; just enough magical light to make even a subdivision look like a whimsical garden.

We don’t get too many of these here in Phoenix this time of year. But the morning I shot this beautiful family, it was 73, partly cloudy, and just the right amount of breeze; absolutely perfect. Mom brought all kinds of fun activities for the kids. It turned out to be a great session with lots of fun moments captured.

It’s the middle of June in Phoenix and this morning was 73 and breezy; absolutely perfect weather for a such a great family. Mom brought tons of stuff to focus the energy of three kids which made for a fun and action-packed session.

This first sneak peek picture is just magical and shows the special bond between two sisters.

This next one made me crack up as soon as I pulled it up. Here’s the story behind this one: The whole morning, little “T” pretty much wanted nothing to do with the camera. But of course, as soon as I pull Mom and Dad aside for some couple pictures, he pops right in and hams it up. I go with the flow and tell him to “give Mom a kiss on the cheek at the same time as Daddy”. This is the outcome.

Enjoy your sneak peek “C” family!

Here are a few more from Baby C’s newborn session that bring a smile to my face every time. He and his brother M are full of personality.

You know the phrase “A cobbler’s children have no shoes”?  Well, a photographer’s child has no pictures.

I used to be so efficient at capturing my son’s childhood, and I try really hard to keep up the momentum. But recently, things have  been so busy with business and a very involved home remodel that I have rarely thought of getting out the camera to take some updated picture of my little boy. Today he got a haircut and I teased it up into a mohawk. He was playing under our new patio where the light was falling gently across his face. Being a natural light photographer, I am constantly assessing lighting conditions and looking at them as if I were viewing them through a lens. I fell in love with the setting even though it was a dusty work environment. With some careful positioning (making sure not to get dusty tarps and brooms in the background) I snapped these images of him taking rocks out of his bucket. I love these because he’s doing what he naturally does best: exploring his world. Oftentimes these are profoundly better than posed portraits. Don’t get me wrong, formal portraits definitely have their place, but these candid moments speak to my heart.
